"Children of all abilities, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make choices about what they want to do. They move around well-planned rooms, selecting resources that they are interested in. Children enjoy a range of activities that staff plan to support their curiosity. They are encouraged to become independent learners and develop confidence. "

The Explorers Room is for babies from the age of 6 weeks to approx. 12-18 months. There is a maximum of 12 babies with a minimum 3:1 children to adult ratio with the continuity of staff a priority. This is a bright and cheerful room which provides a stimulating but also relaxing environment for the babies. The emphasis is very much providing home from home care with lots of love, care and cuddles. We liase closely with parents to ensure the babies routine is followed and they are provided with comprehensive information on their baby’s day at nursery. We have a number of settling in visits before the babies commence at nursery for us to begin building the important relationship with both the baby and the parents.

Through lots of play and individual interaction from carers, babies are encouraged to explore the world of colour, shape and texture and to help in their first steps towards language development. We provide a large selection of toys including bricks, stacking toys, books, shape sorters and soft toys to encourage their gross and fine motor skills and coordination. There is a dedicated outdoor play area for Babies/Toddlers and also a separate Sensory room for them to use.

The Early Years Foundation Stage framework is used to plan for children’s individual development and next steps. All children have a ‘Learning Journal’ detailing this with lots of lovely photographs showing your child enjoying their time at nursery.
